About MD Electric Group

26 Years of Powering
the Pacific Northwest

From a single marine electrical crew in Tacoma to a multi-division operation serving DoD, commercial, and industrial clients across the region.

Our Story

Built on the Waterfront,
Proven Across Industries

MD Electric Group was founded in 2000 by Mac Davey in Tacoma, Washington. What began as a marine electrical contractor serving Puget Sound vessels has grown into a multi-division operation with capabilities spanning marine, commercial, engineering, and electronics, backed by IBEW-trained electricians and a UL Listed 508A and 698A panel shop.

Today, MDEG serves the U.S. Coast Guard, NOAA, the Navy, Washington State Ferries, and commercial clients across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Fail-Safe Electric, our UL Listed 508A and 698A panel shop, builds the industrial control panels behind that work.

Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MD Electric Group one company or several?

MD Electric Group is one accountable organization operating five divisions: MD Marine Electric, MD Commercial Electric, MD Engineering, MD Electronics, and Fail-Safe Electric, our UL Listed 508A and 698A panel shop. All five run under a single contract and a single point of accountability, which means no subcontractor finger-pointing when a project crosses disciplines.

Is MDEG an approved DoD contractor?

Yes. MD Electric Group holds CAGE code 3FTM8, a Joint Certification Program approval (JCP #0089322), and a UEI registered for federal award. We have delivered electrical work for the U.S. Navy, NOAA, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Army Corps of Engineers across 26 years of operation.

What certifications and licenses does MD Electric Group hold?

MDEG carries a UL Listed 508A and 698A panel shop, IBEW union credentials, Small Business Enterprise certification, six state electrical licenses, and JCP approval for restricted technical data. Our workforce holds federal security clearances. These credentials let us move directly from award to work without qualification delays.

Where does MD Electric Group work?

We are headquartered in Tacoma, Washington, and serve federal, commercial, and industrial clients across the Pacific Northwest. Our marine teams mobilize to vessels and shipyards wherever the work is, and Fail-Safe Electric panels ship worldwide. Vessel and pierside work is not limited to a single yard.

How long has MD Electric Group been in business?

MDEG was founded in 2000 as a two-person marine electrical shop serving tugboats and barges in Tacoma. Twenty-six years later it is a multi-division organization trusted by the Navy, NOAA, the Coast Guard, the Army Corps of Engineers, Washington State Ferries, and commercial operators.

Is MDEG bonded?

Yes. MD Electric Group carries $20 million in bonding capacity, which supports federal and large commercial scopes without the bonding ceiling that limits smaller electrical contractors. Bonding capacity is confirmed at quote stage against your specific project value.

Can MDEG handle work involving Controlled Unclassified Information?

MDEG operates under CMMC Level 2 per NIST SP 800-171 on a Microsoft 365 GCC High environment, with a defined accountability boundary for any CUI tied to a contract. Confirm current compliance status and handling requirements with us directly for your specific scope.
